:: Son of a mother's vow ::
"You are to be a pastor! Before you were born, I had given you to the Lord. The day that you were born, Grandpa offered you up to Him in prayer", said Mdm Tow.
Rev. Timothy Tow, the founder father of our church, has returned home to be with our Lord on monday early morning, 5.45am.
I recalled an incident when a brother in Christ mentioned to me that pastor Tow was asked to be the president of Singapore. He humbly rejected the offer knowingly that he has to be a pastor.
Recently, we heard from Rev. Tan Kian Sing that pastor Tow has the capabilities to become the top ranking judge in Singapore. He humbly rejected the offer within himself and became a pastor.
For those who have attended his Homiletics class every wednesday morning, you would recall him reminding the FEBC students to draw a cross at the top right hand corner in every of their sermon. His reason for that? Always remember to preach Christ.
It wasn't his capabilities and abilities that I truly admire in him. It was his determination and focus in doing what God wants him to do. If you translate that example into our lives and our fellowship, we ought to feel shameful. Are we, in our lives, failing God each day? Not doing what God wants us to do? If we're given the opportunity to excel like Rev. Tow, many of us would have succumb into temptation and sin against Him.
Rev. Tow has a set of aspiration he wished to pursue in life. He wanted to be a lawyer and there wasn't any lawyer that wish to remain a small fly. Yet, it was God's purpose and plan that he heeded and pursued.
We may not know pastor Tow as much as others who are closer to him. But looking back now at the BP movement and his dedication in God's work, aren't we in the grace and love of God? The BP movement wasn't started for fun. It is one of the minorities that has stood the test of time even till today. (Ever since the NCC, National Council of Churches, many churches have fallen away and became ecumenical)
God has a plan in all these event. Are we taking it for granted thinking that the younger generation will get to enjoy the spiritual heritage?
As our Lord faithfully took Rev. Tow home by His loving hands, let us remind ourselves that we ought to fight a good fight. Do not be discouraged because Paul constantly reminded us to present our bodies a living sacrifice. (remember my sharing?) There'll be a series of happenings within the BP movement. Although the timing of Rev. Tow's departure to home was unexpected, we have expected some events that come along with it.
Pray for the faithful BP churches who have stood the test of time and who have continued the faithful work that God has given to Rev. Tow.
In conclusion, a Christian death should be a rejoicing event in which one gets to heaven to meet our Lord. Not because of one's disappearance on earth, but because of God's faithfulness towards Rev. Tow and us. Do you feel a sense of urge to fight the good fight after knowing his departure? If you don't, something is definitely not right: Your love for God has waxed cold.
