Small note: Pastor mentioned in his Easter message, “If each one take care of our hearts, the church is alive. Similarly, if each one in Shomerim, takes care and do their daily devotion, then Shomerim will stay alive. May we not be the first to resurrect at the 2 nd coming of the Lord! =p (if u remember the joke Pastor mentioned).

:: Rehearsal@Singapore Conference Hall ::
'Is all the instruments loaded up into the lorry? How come there isn't any girl taking note what goes up the lorry?' 'Ms Jezialle, the girls know what went up.' 'The point is someone has to be there taking note what goes out comes back as well.' I frowned.
'Girls,why are you carrying shoe boxes to the rehearsal venue?' asked princess. 'We will be changing our court shoes there' 'What??? We wld not have anytime for that. Get change into your court shoes now! And you are suppose to practice how to carry and shift you instruments with your court shoes.' screamed princess. And this is the 1st and last sensible thing she did throughout the chaperone trip to Singapore conference Hall with my chinese orchestra.
We were split into 2 buses as we have 80 girls with us. ' Girls this wld be the 1st and last time u wld be going to SCH as the next time you come it wld be the competition itself. So pls, be very focus and be very aware of your surrounding. Look at the conductor and nobody else. DO your best and enjoy.' I said. And it was follow by a cheer to boost the morale up :)
After 1/2 hour, we reach SCH. The girls started to line up in the orderly manner as briefed by their presidents. All were bursting with excitment as they enter the venue and the noise level was...well...u can imagine. They were quickly put into their sitting position on stage so that they can start their rehearsal. 'Ms Jezialle. can i say a prayer with the girls before the rehearsal starts?' asked my vice president sonia. I was very touched and impressed. She, a catholic girl knew how much a prayer wld mean and it does makes a difference. 'Yes...pls go ahead.' I said.
After prayer they started with their rehearsal. 1st up was the set piece, 'Liang Feng' which is my favourite. It is a very challenging piece as it gives every section in the orchestra a chance to be in the lead. Right from the very beginning of the song, there is a Dizi Solo part and the poor girl was so nervous and stress! It wld be easier if done by a guy as a guy wld have more strength. And it was proven true as later we hear a student from Bedok South Sec did it. Then it is followed by our choice piece, 'Chang chen'. This song is actually compose by one of my instructor's father. A very challenging piece that depicts the Great wall of China, in its glory and majesty, and its 'qi liang' and cruelty history behind it as well(as thousands were killed jus to build it).
As I sat in the audience seat(I was reminded by my colleague to remind princess to switch her hp to silent mode as she conveniently forgot to do so the last time she went with Concert Band and the whole band have to wait for her.) I was watching a concert. I was impressed with what my girls did but they r not at the Gold standard. sigh.
The day ended with th Presidents giving them a good shelling esp when they know where they stand after they stay back to watch Bedok South. (I was the one who suggest my girls to stay back and listen since we shall the same conductor.) They were very upset that Bedok South was better than them when they are a smaller orchestra than my sch. But I am glad the leaders know how to lead the orchestra ie noe when to scold and when to encourage them. They know what is expected of them.
Part of a episode of my SYF journey. Going to ask my angklung girls to run in the field for 2 rounds. haha...Do join me tonight if you can as many of my grps except choir wld be performing. My concert band wld also perform teir Hawaii reportoire which promises to be impressive(my colleague cried after listening to them play during the lat camp). Let me know.:)
